Module 4: Curation

Economics is a subject which has evolved over many years. Each time period is associated with a certain school of thought and we often relate to these different approaches with certain economists. the curation assignment created aims at collecting different resources that explain and analyze these different schools of thoughts.

The learning objective of this curation assignment is for students to understand evaluate the different schools of thoughts that Economics has. This assignment will require students to remember, understand, apply, analyze and evaluate the concept. Students should be able to understand the difference between the different points of view. They should be able to solve a problem based on this understanding, say suggesting a policy measure (based on a certain school of thought) during a recession. Each of these theories can be argued for or against given the situation and other variables involved. When students search for resources that includes a discussion, they will build their evaluative skills.

Curation in teaching and learning

Curation is an effective tool and can be used in various ways:

  • It can be a powerful tool for a teacher to collect and build on their teaching methodology, content, resources, games and simulation exercises. Curating this material over the years as you teach can become a rich source for the teacher to refer to and for personal growth.
  • Flipped learning – curating resources for a particular topic can be used by students to study the topic on their own, outside of the classroom can be a useful way to conduct flipped learning.
  • Content organization – curation allows for teachers to collect a variety of resources – reading material, videos, podcasts etc. in a chronological manner which allows for students to study in a thematic way.
